OU Backstory: Deedee Yeowoo was the game avatar of Jacob Kim-Michaels, a 2047 remote drone delivery gig worker for a convenience store who never really mentally recovered from their beloved father Daesong dying of preventable Covid during what she calls "the screaming 20's."

At the beginning of the story, she wakes up in The Wonders of Mundus as Deedee, and quickly learns that she needs to fight for her life - and is able to, with the powers of a cleric and martial artist of Mundus. She's not alone, either; she finds out that her guildmates, and several other west coast players such as livestreamer Ace Striker, were also stranded in the gameworld with no ability to log out.

Comparing notes, they realize they've regressed to first level with starter equipment in the tutorial area The Shores of Awakening and resolve to finish that quest and head to the hub city of Viacruz on the mainland for answers. But there's a complication; the local NPCs have become sapient, and are distrustful and resentful of the dozens of player Adventurers who talk openly about game terms and treated them like, well, NPCs. Worse, they find out some of the Players have decided to join the enemy pirate factions and get down to some good old fashioned mayhem and conquest.

Deedee and her guild manage to reach out to the locals from a place of compassion and agree to help them defend the port of Costa Dulce, then after thus winning their trust, to raid a pirate camp. There, they free several hostages, including the daughter of a prominent Viacruz merchant and vendor named Tayeb, and face an organized band of player Griefers who've thrown in with the pirates - Deedee in particular fighting a duel with a poison/nature spec cleric and cynical bastard named Sara Dreschner.

They beat them back, but Deedee overextends her stamina reserves and passes out after winning. She wakes up on ship headed for Viacruz, and during her time recovering belowdecks with Ace and her friend playing the mage Hikaru Aozora, realizes that she's happier as Deedee than she ever was as Jake. They arrive at Viacruz - only to find that there's a literal legion of stranded player Adventurers outside of their gates (end of Book I).

In Viacruz, they clean themselves up (literally; Deedee shares a bath and a heart-to-heart with her IRL roommate Jules, playing catgirl rogue Sekhmet, and they agree to help Deedee transition) before responding to a summons from the Contessa of Viacruz County. Normally their party leader, the unfailingly diplomatic paladin Alesha, would negotiate; but she's instantly smitten by the Contessa's beauty and Deedee has to improvise, letting slip that the Adventurers are from another world - and doubling down on it in an honest plea for understanding, which impresses her.

She tasks them with a quest to hunt down monsters in the distant village of Vinyedo, Hikaru surmising that they're being sent because the Contessa suspects Griefer involvement. Tayeb's daughter invites them to dinner, and they mention the quest; Tayeb has family in Vinyedo and needs to restock supplies from there anyway, and offers to hire them as guards on the way up, introducing them to the player scout and Hunter named Siobhan Greenwood.

Deedee is taken from shortly after they set off together.

Powers and Abilities: Deedee is incredibly strong and has a powerful and charismatic aura with which to power her magic, and she has decent reflexes, but she's a little slow on the uptake and her self-esteem - while steadily improving - started out in the toilet.

As a Cleric and martial arts practicing monk of the wind god Sylphan, she can use the power of her Breath - or Qi, or in this world Ether - to heal, reinforce her limbs to accomplish great athletic feats, and to command and direct powerful winds.

Limb reinforcement increases the power and durability of her unarmed blows to be the equivalent of being armed with a steel sword - she can parry sword blows without harm and strike back as hard. She's also capable of making a standing jump of 10 meters combined vertical and horizontal height.

Her proudest magical achievement is the ability to rapidly heal through massage that channels and reinforces the target's Qi flow as she does her own in combat, stitching together serious wounds in a matter of hours rather than weeks. This is strenuous enough that it prevents her from regenerating Qi while she does it, as she normally does when resting - but it's more than worth it.

Her martial arts resemble Kenpo, in practice - an emphasis on striking with knifehands, fists, elbows, knees and feet, with arm blocking, grounded stances and some acrobatics. She focuses in particular on dealing knockback or knockdown and lots of it. Her two-inch punches can make a man fly six meters, her devastating Gryphon Talon Kick rams a foe that same distance with her foot, and the spell Gale Force which blasts a small area with hurricane-force winds can toss folks about the same. In combat, she can exhale a Second Wind for someone who's stunned or with mild injuries.

She is also decent at cooking and taking care of herself, and tends to come off as a harmless goofball to people who don't know her well.

Desired Faction: Her first choice is to establish a safehouse and place of healing in Elysium. Alternatively, she would fight in the frontlines in Flotsam.

Canon point: Slightly pre-canon, prior to getting isekai'd, so Badgernet can watch/help her come out as transgender in real time.

Age: Early 30's.

Personality:Deedee Yeowoo has had to fight a voice in her head telling her you'll never be good enough, so why even bother? for a long, long time. She's been vacillating between potential True Callings - so depressed that she was never really able to do the work she needed to ask, "what would make me happy?" Even today, she's a perfectionist and hence a procrastinator, who too often when challenged will back off with her hands up. She apologizes way too often, and cringes at who she used to be and anything that embarrasses her - whether or not it should.

The Translation was a second chance at happiness. She escaped from a life wasted, finding herself in the wonderful world of Mundus, with a body that's a joy to inhabit and a new purpose and direction - to protect the people of Mundus - that her dissolute shut-in lifestyle denied her. In Mundus, she can think about why was so miserable - and it, very clearly, wasn't just her repressed gender issues but rather her indecisiveness. This is so important I've even represented it in game terms: In AWO terms (and in the Valor game she hails from), her build initially dumpstered her Guts, which left her with terrible Resolve - both literally and as a substat. Likewise, her Guts steadily increases as she levels up and struggles to develop the Resolution that previously eluded her.

Deedee will choose to be vivacious, even chirpy. Like never before, she'll tries to go out, to make new friends, to try new things. She’s way not over her social anxieties and clinical depression, and there’s often a wistful and introspective undercurrent to her speech, but she’s consciously bright and open and the rest of what she jokingly calls "that girly shit -" and she's been rewarded for it beyond her wildest dreams. Unfortunately, sometimes she powers through conversations with nervous stream-of-consciousness babbling in impenetrable pop-culture references - she was an otaku shut-in for years, after all, the type to get lost in MMOs metaphorically before she literally did so in Another World Online.

Deedee can be a comic heroine. Being a fucking weeb is always funny, and her situation can be inherently absurd. On occasion she'll needed to gather the proverbial five moose asses to get a stupid cat to give her a stupid potion so she can punch a stupid dragon. Who can blame her for laughing at it? That said, her transgender awakening, and her depression, is not treated as inherently funny. She may joke about it, like referring to her boobs as "the namesakes" to people who get the DD punchline, but it has always been my intention to treat her struggles with gender dysphoria and mental health with the gravity those topics deserve.

Deedee is a very physical person. She deliberately made her avatar sexy and a powerful athlete, to her eternal embarrassment, which gifted her with supreme physical fitness in Mundus. She's going to love her new self. Consequentially, she'll gotten more touchy-feely and affectionate than she ever was as a touch-starved and male-presenting convenience store clerk. She's terrified of coming off as a predator because she frankly was a horny creep teenager, but she probably doesn't need to worry. More tentatively, she'll explore her sexuality. Deedee hasn't had a steady lover since, in her words, "I was a teenage boy." Every relationship she's had before fell apart when her girlfriends (and one boyfriend) got sick of her vacillations. She's not a virgin, and she's comfortably bi... but it'll never feel right until she's herself, as Deedee.

She was only close to Sekhmet pre-Translation, but she got to know and love her friends pretty fast in the way that only battle brothers can. She finds conviction sexy, and kind of has a crush on each faction leader - but she hadn't confessed before Everything Happened So Much. She admired Alesha for radical compassion, Hikaru for intellectual integrity, and Sekhmet for boldness and fairness. They were a great party... before politics drove them apart. None of them are wrong, and it's breaking Deedee's heart to see them argue with such venom.

The only canonical reason she won't just say "fuck it, I'm happier here, I'm joining Sekhmet as a Homesteader" would be Ralph surprising her with his friendship. She had thought of the two of them as casual buddies from anime club, who hung out at a D&D table for the beer and pretzels. But instead, he risked IRL death in a desperate attempt to tell her that she was missed back home. It's forced her to consider taking the lessons she's learned home... and she can't find the words to thank him for it.

Violence won't faze her after she'll stare death in the face after Translation - and death will flinch. She doesn't seek out violence - but to her surprise she'll find she's unafraid of it, enjoys a good fight, and considers it her duty to use her strength in defense of the weak.

Character changes: Honestly, if anything, the Network is probably going to help her acclimate faster and possibly to solve the mysteries of Mundus faster. With a better support network than she had IRL, including a bunch of people willing to tell her she's a tremendous egg, she's going to have an easier time of Mundus than she otherwise would.

Capabilities:
- 2040's knowledge of computer use, social networking, pop culture, and technology
- Geek with a passion for 'classic' (that is, contemporary) anime, k-pop, and tabletop/video games as well as 'modern' (2040s) examples of the same ~~I'll need to pull out of my ass~~
- Ingame, she's an Invoker with the power to channel spirits and spiritual energy into her body, giving her anime/wuxia/xianxia-ass physical capabilities and martial arts skills; she will eventually spec into Summoner, giving her the ability to call forth powerful Eidolons such as Io's draconic Glatisant, as well.

-Consider her fighting ability to be on par with a season one shonen anime character, and as she levels she'll only get more powerful.

To Penny and the Other Arcana: (In game communique in Synodiporia)

Some quick words of advice to make the next game go smoother, if you need to hold one.

1: There are a LOT of people who would willingly volunteer to leave their world righting wrongs and meddling for the greater good. Sekhmet would. Hikaru would. If she could bring her kids, even Alesha would. I would have joined up to help if you had asked. Consider asking for volunteers instead of taking prisoners - and that is what many of us consider being a Traveller to be.
2: Warn us about Infiltration. Fucking seriously. Losing a sense of self is legitimately traumatic for some of us.
3: By and large we need food and drink; provide future Travellers with both. It's okay to just give us raw ingredients and a way to safely store them, because cooking is fun and a lot of us do it just to make friends.
4: Telling us our destination ahead of time like Lady Luck just did is a great start. I know you can't tell us the mission cause figuring out the mission is the point, but any direct guidance you're able to give is good.

I think you're doing your best by us, and I don't think that most of you are malicious (Lou Cypher don't interact). Taking my suggestion is a great way to get ALLIES instead of confused, sullen prisoners. And, to those of you that care (shout out to the Don, Rose, the many named who I name Io, Mei, the late Cephias, Carbire, Astreia, Mortimer, the late Sinregado, the late Abbadon, Amal, Sol, and - lately - Penuel; sorry if I missed anyone but I wanted to encourage y'all) - this is the right thing to do, as well.

I'll see this through to whatever end it'll have; I'd be happy with any of our remaining contestants' themes in our World, and so will just do my best to help the people we meet with a sideline in redemption stories, as thanks to Penuel admitting she was on their own redemption arc.

APPEARANCE:
On the tall side at 5’10": muscular with a layer of fat, like a swimmer. Voluptuous, with an hourglass figure. Bright blue eyes, reddish light brown hair swept up into a ~~fox~~ponytail and, on her ears and tail, fur like a fennic fox: human face and body, but clawed feet and hands with expressive ears and three tails. Dresses in an open saffron-colored jacket and MC Hammer pants, with a teal sash, red prayer beads and hair ornaments, white chest bindings and hand wraps, and reddish leather bracers with gold and turquoise hilights. Extremely expressive body language and physicality, with her ears helpfully highlighting her mental state in fucking neon lights.

CANON HISTORY:
In the vague near-future, one of the more popular MMOs on the planet is Another World Online. A fantasy game with science fantasy elements, AWO is set in an immersive world called Mundus, and boasts sharp writing and worldbuilding as well as challenging and engaging dungeon design. It's fairly similar to Final Fantasy 14 in tone and scope, but the details and the mechanics differ. AWO at it's height hosted an active playerbase of 18 million.

After a horrifying accident during the Umbral Noosphere VR release in North America, half a million of those players found their consciousnesses somehow transferred into the bodies of their avatars, waking up in entry-level dungeons in Mundus.

This event, called the Translation, caused no small amount of consternation on both sides of the screen.

Deedee Yeowoo (her avatar's name, but also now the name she answers to) was one of these players who "went AWOl," finding themselves inhabiting the body of their character - which was a shock to her in several ways.

First, the threat of imminent violence at the hands of goblins was a thing, of course.

Then, there's the fact that she was now female, when she had been assigned male at birth in what the AWOl community laughingly calls "IRL." The vulpine features of her new 'Weihu' race were also a little weird.

Finally, as the jack-of-all-trades Monk class, Deedee was extremely physically fit in a way that who they were back home was decidedly not, and for the first time in her life she felt at home in her own body, her own physicality.

What with the whole "a band of gobbos draws near! Command?" thing demanding her immediate attention, she didn't have much time to process points 2 and 3 before being flung into combat - and surviving after a bit of flailing around, using foreign muscle memories to launch qi fueled elemental attacks and physical martial arts strikes. (Soon after that fight, she found out that healing potions mostly taste like astringent herbs and honey-water.)

And then she and the others with her started heading for the starter city of Viacruz. Her companions this early numbered three - Alesha (both player and character), a Paladin and social studies grad student worrying about getting back to her family back home; Hikaru (nee Akira), an Evoker, programmer and AWO speedrunner worried about the integrity of the simulation they were now stuck in; and Jaatu (nee Victoria or Hong Jie-Li), a Rogue, coworker at Deedee's 7-11 and recent college graduate who quite suddenly wasn't worrying about crushing student loan debts and homophobic parents.

Deedee and these fire-forged friends have spent the last two months establishing themselves as citizens of Viacruz and gaining allies among both the saner AWOl players and the (intelligent and eloquent) people of the city and the kingdom of Caeliburn - mostly through MMO stuff like gathering 10 wyvern scales for the armorer or similar bullshit, but occasionally by defending the people of Caeliburn from maurading "PCs" who decided that this being a game means there are no rules and the "NPC'S" aren't real people.

Unfortunately, Deedee's three friends have come to irreconcilable differences about what the good Adventuring population of Viacruz should have as their highest priority, splintering into three distinct political factions:

Alesha leads those who consider Mundus a prison to be escaped, everyone worried about the state of their physical bodies, their students and patients, their families and friends. Until a way home could be found, they would organize defenses for the playerbase at large. A huge Final Fantasy nerd, she named her group "The Returners."

Hikaru, ever the programmer, gathered his raiding and speedrunner friends to study the growing data corruption they've dubbed the Glitch Sargasso. Lacking access to the source code, Hikaru's allies are working together to study the new physics of Mundus: how does healing work? Why do dead Players revive instantly, but with increasing amounts of retrograde amnesia? How can new foods be developed? How do Inventories work? Can you build working steam engines or computers? These players were sarcastically called "the Mechanists," but the name stuck.

Finally, Jaatu lead a small but vocal faction of those who felt - and feel - that they have nothing worth returning to at home. Life in Mundus is dangerous and violent, she and hers argued, but the prejudices of home were absent or diminished in Caeliburn - and treasure enough to eat good food, enjoy a hot soak at a public bath, and sleep in a warm bed was as close as the PvE areas and as reliable as your equipped weapon. If they made themselves indispensable to the people of Viacrux - and she had no doubt the former NPCs were people - they could make a new and better life. She called her people "the Homesteaders."

Poor Deedee, stuck between the bickering of three friends - none of whom were wrong - felt increased pressure to join sides.

The thought that she had friends IRL - ones willing to risk actual physical death because they missed her - had honestly not occurred to her before Radulf proved to be one of them.

It is at this point (of course), before she could make her decision, that she becomes a 4-star pull in Felicity’s malfunctioning gashapon machine.

CANON PERSONALITY:

There are three impulses at war within Deedee Yeowoo: an urge to explore her new Freedom, a pining for responsibilities and people and Commitment, and the beginnings of Insight into her own newspaper racks worth of issues that she's only now addressing.

Like never Before, she wants to go out and talk to All The People and do All The Things - she even likes fighting monsters, now that she's a hadouken-flinging powerhouse with an excellent grasp of hand-to-hand fundamentals - while also wanting to find The One Thing she should dedicate herself to. But she's only just now noticing the dichotomy and forcing herself to think about why her life back home was so miserable.

If it was just what she's begrudgingly calling "the trans thing," she wouldn't even be thinking about going "home" to IRL: she more or less magically transitioned during the Translation, and it would be so easy to slip back into bad habits and live like a miserable mercenary hobo. But with a clean break from IRL she can now think about the myriad reasons she was a pretty unhappy alleged guy beyond her well-repressed dysphoria. She did a lot of flitting from writing project to writing project, college major to college major, job to depressing job looking for her Special Talent like it would suddenly manifest itself to her like a magical tramp stamp on her hip - and a lot of putting off work to get her shit together.

And now, finally, she's contemplating what a good life - in Mundus or IRL - would even look like, and if it's worth pursuing.

Deedee is a very physical person, as she didn't feel she could be IRL. As embarrassed as she is about it in retrospect, she deliberately gave her avatar the proverbial ass you don't mind looking at for hours in an over-the-shoulder game, maxed out the musculature slider, and gave her an hourglass figure to boot (when pressed, she'll admit that this last point is the entire reason why she named her avatar DD).This act of unconscious wish fulfillment on her part combined with her choice of class and stat spread gifted her with supreme physical fitness: her Strength is off the charts and so is her Spirit, and her Guts and Agility are respectable too. She's had a month to get used to having a body that works for her rather than against her, and she likes it.

As a consequence, she's gotten rather more touchy-feely and physically affectionate than she ever was as a touch-starved, overweight yet malnourished, male-presenting 7-11 clerk IRL. This is tempered with a healthy... okay, neurotic... desire not to come off as a grabby creep instilled in them during their Idiot Horny Bastard teenage years at anime conventions. But as soon as she gets permission, she will be Supremely Huggable, although you only get to Touch Fluffy Tail (and ears) if she really trusts you.

Deedee is vivacious, even chirpy, now that she feels she has outlets for self-expression she previously denied herself. She’s not completely over her borderline depression from back home and there’s often a wistful or introspective undercurrent to her conversations, but she’s trying on being bright and emotionally open and all that other girly shit, and the rewards of interacting with other people that way have sometimes brought her to tears of joy.

Deedee hasn't had a steady joyfriend since she was a teenage boy. Every attempt at a relationship with a girl and her one abortive attempt with a boy IRL collapsed due to her above-mentioned lack of a working Volumetric Shit Compressor. She's gotten the beginnings of crushes on all of the faction leaders - because her life wasn't complicated enough yet - but had yet to act on her feelings before being whisked away to further Travelling; she's not sure whether or not to be relieved.

She didn't know all of her friends on Mundus before the translation - honestly, of the ones mentioned, pretty much just Jaatu and Ralph - but she got to know them all pretty fast, and they were friends in the way that only battle brothers could be. She admired Alesha for her compassion and courage, Hikaru for his intellectual integrity and intolerance for bullshit, and Jaatu for her passion for justice and fairness. They were a great team and a balanced party... before politics began to drive them apart. None of them are wrong but none of them consider their priorities to be compatible, and it's breaking Deedee's heart to see them with fangs out and claws bared at each other (metaphorically. Usually).

The only reason she hasn't sunk into the Homesteader path of least resistance by now is Ralph surprising her with the depth of his friendship. She had thought of them as just casual buddies from the old college anime club, a guy who hung out with 'him' at a D&D table mostly for the beer and pretzels; instead, he risked physical IRL death in a desperate attempt to tell her, personally, that people back home missed her. It's forced her to confront the possibility of taking what she's learned home, and she can't find the words to thank him.

Violence no longer scares her, since she's stared death in the face in the dungeons, battlefields and wizards towers of Mundus - and death flinched. She's helicopter-kicked a dragon in the face (and it was awesome), pummeled maurading "lol NPC's aren't really people so this isn't really slavery" types into submission so a Mechanist could strip them of class and level, and broke up fistfights between Returners and Homesteaders. This isn't to say that she seeks out violence, but rather that she's unafraid of it, she's starting to enjoy a good fight, and that she considers it her duty to exercise her strength in defense of the weak.

POINT OF DEPARTURE:
Thanks, she hates it! ...Okay, elaborating.

Translation into Mundus was bad enough for her sense of identity, and that had continuity of memory from Before (never mind that she needed the Tower moment to grow). She’s going to hate being other people, particularly other people mirroring her impressive collection of Nat Geo back issues. She will be a little mollified by all of her Overlays being women (cis or otherwise), but not by very much.

Still, she’s necessarily adopted a growth mindset, and she’ll take the chance that Overlays provide to give her facets of identity to explore. She and the Mundane Gods know she’ll need the help.

I've simulated Deedee's midlevel Monk abilities by building her as a 6th-level Valor character (out of 20), and have a link to her character sheet here.* In short:

She's extremely strong and physically fit (Strength 13) - not superhumanly so (yet), but reasonably close to Olympic level. She also has very strong magical and spiritual potential (Spirit 13) and good instincts and intuition for supernatural martial arts, contributing to both her physical and magical stamina.

On the other hand, she's not particularly quick or dextrous (Agi 5), she's only slowly been building up her determination and self-worth (Guts 5) and addressing her comic book shops full of issues, and she's a little more impulsive and slow-witted than she likes to admit (Mind 4.)

She's capable of boosting her own already impressive physical abilities by channeling "qi" into her limbs, allowing her to perform ridiculous anime/wuxia leaps; parkour around like Ranma Saotome on a caffeine high; flash step in 20-foot increments; increase the amount of power in her strikes and magical attacks with breathing exercises; parry and deflect energy blasts directed at her; and meditate to rapidly heal her wounds and regain depleted stamina.

She's also a bit of a klutz and you should not bring her along for stealth missions, because she will find the proverbial dry twig with her foot.

Her main combat techniques resemble some styles of Shaolin Kung-Fu. She’s essentially a Ryu/Ken shotoclone - apart from her impressive normals gam- er, impressive footwork and basic strikes, she can do flying windmill kicks with Mad Ups, rising uppercuts that physically launch their targets into the air to hang there for four long seconds, exhale what is essentially the D&D spell Fireball, and magically boost the physical capabilities and agility of herself or an ally for about 10 seconds.

She's also developed the Tension Release ~~(read: Limit Break)~~ Pulse of the Dragon, which creates a field of rippling magical energy shaped like a (Chinese) dragon in a 15-foot radius centered around an area she can strike that lasts for around 20 seconds. This energy dragon lashes out at anyone in the area that isn't Deedee for as long as it lasts.

* Note that this sheet is from an earlier iteration of this project - one that was a straight up travesty of isekai anime rather than a serious examination of it's themes - and that the blurbs on her sheet assume she's a Homesteader; she hasn't actually made that decision yet prior to Synodiporia.

BACKGROUND:

In the vague near-future, one of the more popular MMOs on the planet is Another World Online. A fantasy game with science fantasy elements, AWO is set in an immersive world called Mundus, and boasts sharp writing and worldbuilding as well as challenging and engaging dungeon design. It's fairly similar to Final Fantasy 14 in tone and scope, but the details and the mechanics differ. AWO at it's height hosted an active playerbase of 18 million.

After a horrifying accident during the Umbral Noosphere VR release in North America, half a million of those players found their consciousnesses somehow transferred into the bodies of their avatars, waking up in entry-level dungeons in Mundus.

This event, called the Translation, caused no small amount of consternation on both sides of the screen.

Deedee Yeowoo (her avatar's name, but also now the name she answers to) was one of these players who "went AWOl," finding themselves inhabiting the body of their character - which was a shock to her in several ways.

First, the threat of imminent violence at the hands of goblins was a thing, of course.

Then, there's the fact that she was now female, when she had been assigned male at birth in what the AWOl community laughingly calls "IRL." The vulpine features of her new 'Weihu' race were also a little weird.

Finally, as the jack-of-all-trades Monk class, Deedee was extremely physically fit in a way that who they were back home was decidedly not, and for the first time in her life she felt at home in her own body, her own physicality.

What with the whole "a band of gobbos draws near! Command?" thing demanding her immediate attention, she didn't have much time to process points 2 and 3 before being flung into combat - and surviving after a bit of flailing around, using foreign muscle memories to launch qi fueled elemental attacks and physical martial arts strikes. (Soon after that fight, she found out that healing potions mostly taste like astringent herbs and honey-water.)

And then she and the others with her started heading for the starter city of Viacruz. Her companions this early numbered three - Alesha (both player and character), a Paladin and social studies grad student worrying about getting back to her family back home; Hikaru (nee Akira), an Evoker, programmer and AWO speedrunner worried about the integrity of the simulation they were now stuck in; and Sekhmet (nee Victoria or Hong Jie-Li), a Rogue, coworker at Deedee's 7-11 and recent college graduate who quite suddenly wasn't worrying about crushing student loan debts and homophobic parents. As well as another girl like her, the comically inept Weihu Warrior named Ace Striker ingame.

Deedee and these fire-forged friends have spent the last two months establishing themselves as citizens of Viacruz and gaining allies among both the saner AWOl players and the (intelligent and eloquent) people of the city and the kingdom of Caeliburn - mostly through MMO stuff like gathering 10 wyvern scales for the armorer or similar bullshit, but occasionally by defending the people of Caeliburn from maurading "PCs" who decided that this being a game means there are no rules and the "NPC'S" aren't real people.

Unfortunately, three of Deedee's friends have come to irreconcilable differences about what the good Adventuring population of Viacruz should have as their highest priority, splintering into three distinct political factions:

Alesha leads those who consider Mundus a prison to be escaped, everyone worried about the state of their physical bodies, their students and patients, their families and friends. Until a way home could be found, they would organize defenses for the playerbase at large. A huge Final Fantasy nerd, she named her group "The Returners."

Hikaru, ever the programmer, gathered his raiding and speedrunner friends to study the growing data corruption they've dubbed the Glitch Sargasso. Lacking access to the source code, Hikaru's allies are working together to study the new physics of Mundus: how does healing work? Why do dead Players revive instantly, but with increasing amounts of retrograde amnesia? How can new foods be developed? How do Inventories work? Can you build working steam engines or computers? These players were sarcastically called "the Mechanists," but the name stuck.

Finally, Sekhmet lead a small but vocal faction of those who felt - and feel - that they have nothing worth returning to at home. Life in Mundus is dangerous and violent, she and hers argued, but the prejudices of home were absent or diminished in Caeliburn - and treasure enough to eat good food, enjoy a hot soak at a public bath, and sleep in a warm bed was as close as the PvE areas and as reliable as your equipped weapon. If they made themselves indispensable to the people of Viacrux - and she had no doubt the former NPCs were people - they could make a new and better life. She called her people "the Homesteaders."

Poor Deedee, stuck between the bickering of three friends - none of whom were wrong - felt increased pressure to join sides.
